Tumbo, part of the passionfruit family, is high in vitamins A and C and potassium. They are a source of calcium, phosphorus and iron and contain B-complex vitamins niacin and trace amounts of thiamine and riboflavin. Tumbo passionfruit contain small amounts of carotene and fiber and provide antioxidant and digestive benefits.
Tumbos can be eaten raw, but it is also possible to process it into jams, juices, liquors and it is also used in Peruvian cuisine to create magnificent sauces that accompany seafood dishes such as Ceviche, Tiradito and Causa.
